Tax residence day counter
Tax obligations follow tax residence, not nationality. The most common threshold is 183 days in 12 months. Enter your stays in each country and calculate.
Everything is calculated on your own device — nothing is sent anywhere.
Stays in each country
The day you enter and the day you leave both count as a day of presence — that is how this tool counts.
Three things this number does not tell you
- 183 days is not a universal rule. Many countries use this threshold but not all, and the 12 months are counted differently: some use the calendar year, some any rolling 12 months, some a tax year of their own.
- You can be tax resident while staying below the threshold. Many countries also look at your permanent home and centre of vital interests — where your family, home and income are. A hundred days can still make you tax resident if everything else is there.
- Being tax resident in two countries at once is common. Especially in the year you move out or move back. A double tax treaty then applies, and it does not apply automatically — in most cases you have to claim it and produce a certificate of tax residence.
For your own case, ask the competent authority of the country concerned, your own country's diplomatic mission, or a lawyer.
